The Choetech Magnetic Wireless Charger is basically a clone of the Apple MagSafe Charger but for less than half the price.

Choetech Magnetic Wireless Charger vs Apple Magsafe Charger Price

Currently, Apple sells the MagSafe Charger for £39 but does not include a plug, which they would then charge you £19 if you want the 20W USB-C Power Adapter. So, the official Apple solution will cost £58. It is cheaper on Amazon at £27.98, but you would still need the USB-C plug.

The Choetech currently costs just £23.79, and they include a 20W USB-C adaptor.

Positive Amazon Reviews

Looking at the Amazon reviews, users seem to agree this is excellent. One of the only bad reviews appears to complain that this is not a 20W charger, but the listing doesn’t state this is a 20W charger, it is the plug that does 20W. The iPhone can only accept 15W QI charging, and this is what Choetech provides.

Works As Expected

The charger works as you would expect it to; it offers essentially the same functionality you get from the MagSafe. If you have one of the latest iPhone 12 models, the charger will magnetically stick to the back of the phone, meaning you don’t have to align it up with the QI charging coils. It is a simple but ingenious idea that I hope Android manufacturers copy.

Due to the magnetic nature of this, the overall design is smaller and slimmer than other wireless charging pads from the likes of Anker. This makes it a little more portable and aesthetic.

The charging technology itself is standard, so any device that accepts QI charging will work with this, including older iPhones, wireless charging AirPods and Android devices.

Alternative Options

There are not currently many competing 3rd party options for magnetic chargers. Letscom is the only reputable brand I can find which is cheaper but lacks a USB-C plug, so it works out more expensive if you need both.

Overall

The Choetech Magnetic Wireless Charger works the same as the official charger but is considerably cheaper and also has little to no competition yet from other 3rd party brands.

So it is an excellent affordable alternative to the MagSafe charger.
