Acer D241H Display+ : Monitor with WiFi

Posted by skin On March - 8 - 2010

The D241H Display+ is a new monitor with what i can only describe as bizarre features for a monitor. I’m not saying their bad features by any means just strange. In a world where most people own mobile phones or PMPs which can do your social networking, emails and photos, why not have a monitor that can do it independently of your desktop PC.

This Full HD panel with a 2ms response time, HDMI and DVI port, it’s your standard fairly decent LCD monitor for your desktop, What makes it stand out though is its ability to connect via Wi-Fi(or ethernet) to the net when your desktop is powered off. Once connected it’s widgets can check your email(Gmail and Yahoo! mail) collect RSS feeds from your favourite MightyGadget blog, and other assorted web feeds.

You can also plug in an SD card or USB dongle and playback your pictures turning the monitor into an oversized picture frame. What’s cool is you can have three widgets working at once too. It also comes with a remote with a slide out QWERTY keyboard making it easy to write your emails or messages from a comfortable distance.

No pictures of the screen yet but it’s believed to be available in May and pricing is still TBC.

Acer H5360 3D Projector

Posted by skin On January - 12 - 2010

We here at Mighty Gadget cant wait to embrace the revolution and all these wonderful AV gadgets that one will need. We’ve talked about the TVs and the supply from Sky/Freeview etc. Today we have a projector. The Acer H5360 has just come out and is one of the first of its kind to be on shelves for us to buy.

The H5360 is compatible with NVIDIA’s vision(what it uses in its graphics chips) which dispalys two images at 120Hz for each eye. What this means is when you slap on the glasses, the images converge into one a image that runs at 60Hz. The projector itself projects(obviously) a 2500 ANSI Lumens image which has a contrast ratio of 3200:1. As for resolution, 720p.

The projector is on sale now for a measly £549.99. Not bad for a brand new piece of kit so if you’re thinking ahead its not too bad an investment. If you want use out of it now however, you’ll need an NVIDIA vision powered PC to use it.

AspireRevo Launches. First NVIDIA Ion-based nettop

Posted by James On April - 8 - 2009

The Acer Aspire Revo is available via Amazon for £316.23, £263.98 and £149.99 respectively.

Oh yes it looks like the much anticipated Ion-based computers are starting to be launched. Acer is launching what amounts to NVIDIA's first Ion-based nettop.

The AspireRevo will have a 1.6GHz Intel 230 processor, up to 4GB of RAM, up to 250GB of HDD space, a 4-in-1 card reader, HDMI / VGA outputs, gigabit Ethernet, six USB 2.0 sockets, audio in / out, Windows Vista Home Premium / Basic and a svelte black and white enclosure that measures just 7.1- x 7.1- x 1.2-inches.

Thanks to the Ion based GPU the AspireRevo will play nicely with 1080p content such as Blu-Ray, DirectX 10 and some less demanding games.

No actual wording on the release date or pricing but it should be within Q2.

The Acer Hornet nettop has had quite a bit of press attention recently as it is one of the first machines that is claimed to use NVIDIA’s Ion Platform and will offer Wii like motion sensitive gaming.

Some specifications have been leaked confirming some of the features along with some other interesting details.

It will support 1080p video playback over HDMI. A "Media Center" version will come with a Wii-like remote that can be used for gaming as well as media control.

Price range will be $149-$299 with the low end model pairs what sounds like an Atom N230 with 1GB of RAM and an 80GB drive preloaded with Vista Home Basic, while higher end models get 2GB of RAM, a 160GB drive, and a "Boxshell" quickboot OS in addition to Vista Home Premium.

It should also operate at less than 26dB which means it will be almost silent for the majority of people as ambient noise levels in a home are around 20-25 dBA.

Personally I don't think it is much of a looker but luckily its diamond-shaped chassis designed to hang off the back of your flatscreen.

If it really can handle 1080p fine and come in at the quoted prices I will definitely by buying one of these!

Acer F1, Windows Mobile 6.5 packing a Qualcomm Snapdragon?

Posted by James On March - 26 - 2009

According to the folks at All About Phones who reportedly attended an Acer event recently, the F1 will be running the 800MHz ARM chip. This is a little slower than the Toshiba TG01 which has the equivalent processor running at a monstrous 1Ghz.

The device will be Windows Mobile 6.5-based which will be skinned in a Flash based Acer Suite 2.0 shell.

The report also mentions a September release and a possible 560 Euro ($760) price tag.

The Snapdragon processor hasn't actually been confirmed but it looks likely
