Wileyfox maker of budget Android Phones goes into administration

Sharing is caring!

Wileyfox has only been going for 3 years, and now it is going into administration.

The small UK based phone company started out back in 2015, and it has had some hits with its budget-friendly smartphones.

Wileyfox-Jack said “Wileyfox Europe Limited is in Administration. Andrew Andronikou and Andrew Hosking are appointed joint administrators and act jointly and severely without personal liability.”

I reviewed the Swift 2 Plus back in April last year and was pleasantly surprised with how well it performed for a £160 and I still use it as my backup phone now.

Unfortunately, Wileyfox started to have a rough time of it later in the year, they had to ditch the Cyanogen operating system in favour of LineageOS but were then called out for leaking data to Yandex.

They also implement a strange ad-based strategy similar to some Amazon devices, where the device is cheaper if you accept adds.

The issues above combined with low-profit margins and hugely fierce competition within the market have meant that Wilkeyfox is no longer able to be profitable and in turn has ended up in administration.
