There's nothing quite like enjoying a huge, mega-budget special effects movie on the big screen, but once they are out of cinemas, how can you ever hope to get that intense sensory experience back again?
Watching a film on the TV can be a great way to relax, but when it comes to enormous battles, super heroes flying all over the place and explosions in space, something can get a little lost when transported onto the small screen.
Project Audio Visual can install single room home cinemas that will transform your living room into your very own private movie screening – but which five films are perfect to enjoy on your home cinema?
- Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back
Picking your favourite Star Wars film is like trying to pick your favourite son or daughter, but we've gone for the well balanced middle child – The Empire Strikes Back.
The ill-fated prequels may have left a stain on the memory of George Lucas' original trilogy, but watch TESB for just 10 minutes and it'll be like you're ten years old all over again. With the Battle of Hoth and the excellent Cloud City scenes making up some of the saga's best moments, Star Wars Episode V is perfect viewing on a huge screen with excellent quality surround sound audio.
- Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers
As with the Star Wars trilogy, it is the second movie of the franchise that we have selected as a must-watch on a great audio/visual set up.
Probably the most action-packed of all the LOTR films, with fights kicking off everywhere, it's the Battle of Helm's Deep which really marks The Two Towers out as an incredible special effects movie, with thousands of computerised orcs besieging the huge fortress.
- Avengers Assemble
We all love a good super hero movie, but it was still kind of surprising just how well Avengers Assemble did at the box office, earning just about enough money to repair all of the damage they inflicted on New York City during that last crazy 45 minutes of running and jumping and explosions.
Modern technology allows you to watch films on the go and even on your mobile phone, but there is only way to enjoy Avengers Assemble – and that's on a massive screen with a deafeningly loud sound system.
Ridley Scott's iconic horror/sci-fi movie Alien is 35 years old this year, and despite what you think you might remember there is very little sighting of the alien itself, so how has it made it into our top 5 list of must-watch films for your home cinema?
Simply put, Alien was and continues to be one of the most atmospheric and terrifying films ever made, and the slowly building tension relies greatly on the effectiveness of the sound and score – delivered perfectly on a state of the art, home cinema surround sound.
The plot of Gravity is hardly ground-breaking and George Clooney's character was likened to Buzz Lightyear, yet Gravity was one of the stand out films of 2013 thanks to the incredible special effects and, in particular, the use of 3D.
The opening sequence of Alfonso Cuaron's seven-time Oscar winner is simply jaw-dropping, with the whole movie redefining the cinema experience from something to passive to something that feels altogether more involving. You might lose a bit of the experience without a 3D television, but on a large screen and with the bass turned up this is still going to be one hell of a watch on your home cinema.
What movies do you think simply HAVE to be watched on a big screen? Let us know in the comments below.
