Samsung has officially purchased home automation startup SmartThings, allowing it to keep up with the growing trend of home automation.

TechCrutch sources say the buyout was worth $200 million and  SmartThings CEO Alex Hawkinson said the team would continue to be run independently, but that it’s moving home base to Palo Alto where Samsung has an Innovation Centre.

SmartThings has been one of the Kick Starter successes which was successfully funded on September 22, 2012. with a total pledge of $1,209,423.

Samsung have been dabbling with home automation with the release of WW9000 Washing Machine that can be controlled via smart phone.
