Samsung launched their first and only fitness band, the Gear Fit, back in early 2014. It’s launch came with average reviews and criticism about its price compared to other brands such as Fitbit.
Several Samsung orientated blogs are now reporting that the follow up to the Gear Fit is nearly ready to launch with the product code SM-R150. It will likely be based on Samsungs all-in-one health chip called the Samsung Bio-Processor.
It is believed the sensors in the Bio-Processor could including bioelectrical impedance analysis, while the others focus on volumetric measurements of organs, an electrocardiogram and skin temperature, among other things.
The initial images look quite bulky for a dedicated fitness wearable, and more like a smart-watch. So it will be interesting to see exactly how fitness orientated it is.
The images also show an additional wearable located on the chest, which is believed to be an add-on sensor.
With the Mobile World Congress coming up next month we will likely find out more soon.
