It has already been reported that Qualcomm is launching a successor to its ancient 2100 SoC for wearables. We have also heard that Google will finally be releasing 3 Pixel watches this year, which is probably not coincidental timing.
Winfuture have managed to get some more info on this new chip, and it won’t just be used in watches but as a foundation for new Augmented Reality Glasses. It is possible we may finally see a Google Glass successor.
Specific features of the new chip include high-perf, low-power eye-tracking, LTE, and WiFi.
The eye tracking is claimed to be able to track the pupil and corneal reflections with a camera with 120 frames per second with extremely low computational power.
Qualcomm Snapdragon Wear 3100 platform is a quad-core CPU based on the ARM Cortex-A7 architecture and uses Adreno 304 GPU, the platform is derived from the old Snapdragon 212 that was launched back in 2015, so not as new as previous reports may have suggested.
However, the CPU is combined with new power management solutions designed to ensure ultra-low power operation.
WinFurure also claims the Snapdragon 3100 will be featured in devices from Fossil, Louis Vuitton, Movado, and TAG Huer.
In regards to the Pixel watches it is believed that they are codenamed “Ling, Triton,” and “Sardine.” Some of the features included will be GPS, LTE, VoLTE, Bluetooth including apt-X, WiFi, pedometer, heart-rate monitor, and other health features.
