It is almost time for the launch of latest phone from tech geek favourite OnePlus.

Since their inception just 5 years ago, OnePlus have established themselves as a significant player in the phone industry by making high-end phones at affordable prices. Each year the price has crept up, but they have always undercut the major players such as Samsung and Sony.

There have been a lot of leaks and rumour about the new OnePlus 6, and we now know most of the details.

First of all, the phone will feature a notch. Whether you love or hate them, they are heard to stay. Personally, I am indifferent to them. I don’t feel like it is copying Apple, with the obsession for more screen real estate it was an obvious solution, though others have come up with more imaginative ways of dealing with it such as Vivo and Xiaomi.

The notch will be hidden whenever you’re watching a video, the clock has been moved to the left of the status bar, and you will also see the same gesture system that OnePlus added to the 5T with its OxygenOS Open Beta in late January.

The internals of the phone have been confirmed by the CEO Pete Lau, and the OnePlus 6 will have the Snapdragon 845 processor, 8GB RAM, and 256GB of storage. It hasn’t been confirmed if this is the default configuration or if a lower 6GB/128GB option will be offered. It would be amazing to see 256GB as default, and about time companies move too much more significant storage.

The CEO made some comments about the speed of the phone stating:

“Fast is not just about shorter loading times or top download speeds, any OEM can achieve high numbers in one or two metrics. Fast is about creating a lasting impression of speed and smoothness, throughout all-day use, whether you’re recording 4K video or browsing Facebook.

“Fast is about ensuring there is less than a 1/1000 percent likelihood of your phone freezing, even under constant heavy use. To us, it’s about setting a higher standard.”

Some leaks suggest an in-screen fingerprint reader, but I would take this with a pinch of salt. It is not out of the realm of possibility though as the Huawei Mate RS has it, but the pricing is a little higher.

A dual camera set-up is all but confirmed thanks to Evan Blass; one leak suggests it will be a 12MP + 20MP rear combo. With the release of the P20 Pro and the rumoured Nokia 9 it will be interesting to see if the cameras on the OnePlus can keep up.

The Evan Blass leaked confirmed a 3.5mm jack though, which will come as a welcome relief to many.

Another recent leak hinted at the other specs of the phone, it looks like we will see a 3300mAh, which is a decent size, but again I would have liked to see something a bit larger.

A recent leak lists the phone at $749, which would be the most expensive OnePlus phone to date. However, there is some confusion over the exact currency used. I hope this isn’t trying at once we get UK pricing, it won’t be that far off the major brands.

The firm promised to launch the handset before the end of June, but if recent cycles are anything to go by, it’ll be here well before that.
