New Budget Gaming Dell G3, G5 & G7 Laptops Launched – i7-8750HQ – GTX 1060 Max-Q

Sharing is caring!

If your budget can’t stretch to the flagship Alienware laptops and you want something with more gaming power than the new Dell XPS 15, then the Dell G range could be the perfect option.

This is a new range of laptops from Dell aimed at more affordable portable gaming. The range includes 4 new laptops start off with the Dell G3 model with 15-inch or 17-inch display options priced from $749 for the 15” or $799 for the 17” with availability from today.

Dell G3-Family

The 2 laptops have the same configuration options apart from the screen, and you can choose from a Core i5-8300HQ or  Core i7-8750HQ 8-gen processor.

There are 3 graphics options including:

  • NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 1050, 4 GB GDDR5 video memory
  • NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 1050 Ti, 4 GB GDDR5 video memory
  • NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 1060 with NVIDIA® Max-Q Design Technology, 6 GB GDDR5 video memory

Hard drive options start at 1 TB 5400 RPM Hybrid Hard Drive with 8GB Cache, and go up to 512 GB PCIe SSD, there are also dual-drive options.

With this being a budget option, the display is a basic FHD (1920x 1080) IPS anti-glare LED-backlit display,

Memory options are 4 -16 GB, 2666 MHz, DDR4; up to 32 GB

Dell G5 15

The next model up in the range is the Dell G5 15, the overall design and build on this appears to be a bit nicer, but it is hard to tell from the press images. This only comes in a 15-inch model, but there are a couple of improved specs over the previous model.

The CPU configuration is the same as the G3 with i5-8300HQ or i7-8750HQ, and the GPU options are the same starting at the GTX 1050 going up to the 1060 with Max-Q.

The display options are the only noticeable differences in the main spec. You now have an option for the FHD as found on the G3 or you can bump this up to UHD (3840x 2160) IPS Anti-GlareLED Backlit Display (non-touch).

The G3 had an optional T-C thunderbolt whereas this is standard on the G5.

This model will also start at $799 with limited configurations from today.

Dell G7 15

The top model in the family is the Dell G7 15 which again appears to improve the overall aesthetics but remains largely the same as previous models inside.

You have all the same options from the G5, but now you have an additional CPU option with the 8thGen Intel® Core™ i9-8950HQ Quad Core Processor – as you might notice, it says Quad Core, this is what it states on my spec sheet, I think it is a type as the 8950HQ should be a 6-core-12-thread CPU.

The laptop will start at $849, and availability will start from today.

Pricing looks very good for all 4 laptops, but I don’t have UK pricing yet, and with all the configuration options the final price you pay will often be much more. However, these look like they could make great choices for gaming laptops.
