JBL has announced an interesting all in one solution that will no doubt appeal to a lot of people.
The JBL Link Bar is a soundbar with Google Assistant and Android TV built into it – allowing you to reduce the clutter around your TV by having one device rather than 2.
With the system using Android TV, you will have access to all the services you would normally find on a streaming box including Netflix, Amazon Prime, Kodi and Plex.
For UK users, you should, in theory, be able to get all the catch-up channels, but I am not 100% sure of this, as the Nvidia Shield has many missing, but that is an issue with the Shield and not Android TV.
You’ll also be able to use Assistant commands to play music from the soundbar when the TV is switched off. This also means you will also be able to carry out other home automation commands as you would on a Google Home speaker.
Google says this is the “first in a series of hybrid devices that delivers a full Assistant speaker and Android TV experience,” which suggests there’s plenty more to come.
There is no word on pricing or availability, but it should be with us in autumn.
We will hopefully hear more exciting announcements today as the Google I/O conference starts.
