Google buys Nest Labs for $3.2bn

Sharing is caring!

Less than a month ago we reported that Google was considering getting into the smart home market by testing a smart thermostat. Today it appears they are doing more than just considering getting into the market, they have just announced the acquisition of Nest Labs, makers of the Nest smart thermostat and smart CO2 monitor.

Apparently it is a cash deal worth $3.2bn and Google CEO Larry Page is quoted as saying:

“They’re already delivering amazing products you can buy right now – thermostats that save energy and smoke/CO alarms that can help keep your family safe, we are excited to bring great experiences to more homes in more countries and fulfil their dreams!”

Hopefully this will help drive the home automation and smart home trend even more this year and we might even get chance to see the Nest arrive on our UK shores.

In the mean time we are still waiting to have our Tado installed, which is becoming quite frustrating! Once it is, we will get a review up and you can see how good the Nest competitor really is.
