The Xiaomi Redmi only launched in October but it looks like Redmi are working quickly to get a new model out, with a yet announced MediaTek Helio G70 chipset.

The new MediaTek Helio G70 will be positioned beneath the Helio G90 & G90T which is used in the Redmi Note 8 Pro.

The Redmi 9 is also said to sport a 6.6-inch notched display, which is up from the Redmi 8’s 6.22″ panel. The entry-level model will have 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage, up from 3/32GB in its predecessor.

It is the new chipset that is the most interesting piece of news here. MediaTek appear to be on an aggressive push to gain some dominance in the mobile chipset space. While the Helio G90T has only been used in one phone, it comfortably competes against the popular Qualcomm Snapdragon 730G, beating it in most synthetic benchmarks.

The new MediaTek Dimensity chips also look set shake up the market with the Dimensity 1000L outperforming the Snapdragon 765G in benchmarks and the flagship Dimensity 1000 faring well against the Snapdragon 865 (though not beating it in Antutu).

What sort of specification and performance the Helio G70 will offer is completely unknown at the moment. The Redmi 8 has the Snapdragon 439 while the Redmi Note 8 has the Snapdragon 665 then the Pro with the G90t.
