For under £100 the Xiaomi Redmi 6A has stood out as the best budget phone in the UK for the past year. While it obviously lacks the wow factor of any flagship or even mid-range phone, it was perfectly usable for day to day functions including browsing the web, social media, and YouTube. Even the camera was able to churn out some decent shots.

This is now being upgraded to the Redmi 7A which has had the processor upgraded from the Mediatek MT6761 Helio A22 to the Snapdragon 439 chipset.

The Snapdragon 439 chipset is an eight-core chipset using four Cortex-A53 high-efficiency cores operating at 1.45 GHz along with four high-performance Cortex-A53 operating at 1.95 GHz. The Snapdragon 439 integrates the Adreno 505 GPU. In comparison, the Helio A22 uses just four Cortex-A53 cores running at 2.0Ghz and a PowerVR GE8320 GPU. So the Redmi 7A should be significantly more powerful.

Memory is either 2GB with 16GB internal storage or 3GB/32GB with expandable storage via microSD up to 256GB. Which is the same as the older model.

The display is 5.45-inch HD+ (720 x 1440px) giving a 18:9 aspect ratio, as you would expect fro a phone at this price, there is no notch, instead large top and bottom bezels. The screen is also slightly curved to the sides.

The smartphone also uses the same a 13MP main camera with PDAF and LED flash while on the front we get a 5MP snapper.

THe battery gets a large upgrade from 3000 mAh battery to 4,000 mAh and considering the screen size and resolution, combined with the SD439 I would expect this phone to have multi-day battery life.

It also launches with Android 9.0 Pie out of the box and will come with 3.5mm audio.

Pricing and release date will be announced during the launch of Redmi K20 on May 28. It will come in Black and Blue colours.
