Vivo, the company famed for the Vivo Nex and its pop up camera, recently announced it was creating a sub-brand called iQOO, because we don’t have enough difficult brand names to pronounce.

Unlike affordable sub-brands like Huawei with their Honor brand, or Oppo and Realme, the new IQOO brand will focus on flagship devices.

Vivo phones have been available in China within a price bracket of 1,000 Yuan (~£115) and 4,000 Yuan (~£460). The iQOO brand is expected to sell premium flagship phones worth 5,000 Yuan (~£570) and above.

Vivo recently showcased the upcoming IQOO smartphone during a live television broadcast and many of its details have now been revealed via an image posted on Chinese microblogging platform Weibo.

This is not a foldable phone like some previous rumours suggested but a traditional shape which includes a triple camera set up on the rear.

The phone will feature a Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 chipset, as you would expect from a flagship device.

The top-end model of the smartphone will pack 12GB RAM and 256GB of internal storage. It is expected there will be several memory configurations so the base models will be lower.

The phone is also confirmed to come with the sixth-generation in-display fingerprint sensor. The company has not revealed what’s new in this sixth-generation technology but it looks like we’ll get to know more about it soon.

Several companies have been promising a wider sensor area for in-display reading, and this could mean the lower bottom of the phone could be used as a sensor. The small sensor size has been one of my biggest gripes with the Mate 20 Pro.

Vivo phones are not readily available in the UK and we must import them, however with Xiaomi and Oppo launching here in the past 6 months I hope Vivo will follow suit.

Vivo have been one of the more innovative brands on the market, first with their launch of the Vivo Nex which ditched the notch in favour of a pop up camera. More recently the Vivo Apex 2019 was announced which has no ports, buttons or holes.
