Today Samsung announced their new Galaxy M series of phones with an aim to gain a greater market share in India which has been eaten away by affordable phones from the likes of Xiaomi.

The two Android handsets, the M10 and M20, both include Samsung’s new “Infinity-V” teardrop display, and are designed to be successors to the A series of handsets.

The Galaxy M20 has a 6.3-inch display (1080 × 2340) with a 19.5:9 aspect ratio. The phone is powered by the new Exynos 7904 octa-core chipset clocked at 1.8GHz and six cores at 1.6Ghz for optimised battery performance. This new chipset will likely offer similar performance to the Qualcomm Snapdragon 636 which I compared earlier today.

The M20 has 3GB or 4GB of RAM and 32 or 64GB of internal storage that can be further expanded up to 512GB via microSD card.

Samsung is including a 5,000 mAh battery on the Galaxy M20, which is considerably larger than what they offer on their premium handsets. Hopefully, this is something they will start to consider for them in the future.

The Samsung Galaxy M10 has a 6.22-inch display (720 × 1520) with a 19.5:9 aspect ratio. Samsung is powering the Galaxy M10 with the Exynos 7870. This has a smaller 3,400 mAh battery but the chipset is a littler more power efficient.

Both devices use the same camera layout with dual rear cameras, with a 13-megapixel F1.9 main camera, alongside an ultrawide five-megapixel F2.2 camera. There is then a 5MP selfie camera on the front.

Samsung is also including a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor, USB-C, and a headphone jack on both the Galaxy M20 and M10. They will also both launch with Android 8.1 Oreo and they feature Widevine L1 certification allowing HD streaming on popular platforms like Netflix.

Samsung’s Galaxy M10 will be priced starting at Rs. 7,990 (£85), and the Galaxy M20 starts at Rs. 10,990 (£117).
