Xiaomi-owned POCO announced that it would launch its new mid-range smartphone — the POCO M2 Pro in India on the 7th of July.

The company have made the announcement via social channels showing the rough design of the rear with a square arrangement of four cameras in the centre of the phone.

There is then a video teaser shared by the company includes a silhouette of the M2 Pro with a recess on the right side hinting at a side-mounted fingerprint reader.

The phone has now popped up on Geekbench, confirming the rumoured Qualcomm Snapdragon 720G chipset with a score of 554 for the single-core and 1757 for the multi-core results.

The phone was also equipped with 6GB of RAM.

Between the design and specification, it is almost certain the phone is the same as the Redmi Note 9 Pro. Brands rebadging their phones for different regions is not particularly new, both Xiaomi and Oppo do it for many of their phones.

However, the POCO M2 Pro is set to launch in India, where the Redmi Note 9 Pro is already available.

Currently you can buy the Redmi Note 9 Pro (Interstellar Black, 4GB RAM, 64GB Storage) for ₹13,999 or the Redmi Note 9 Pro (Aurora Blue, 6GB RAM, 128GB Storage) for ₹16,999.

So it will be interesting to see if there is a difference in the launch price of the POCO M2 Pro.

As a quick recap of the POCO M2 Pro / Redmi Note 9 Pro specification:

  • Chipset: Snapdragon 720G
  • Display: 6.67 inches 2400 x 1080
  • Rear Camera: 64MP, 8MP ultrawide, 5MP macro, 2MP depth
  • Front Camera: 16MP
  • Battery: 5020 mAh battery and 30W charge

It is unlikely we will see the POCO M2 Pro in the UK or EU
