Motorola doesn’t get a lot of attention on this blog, though they still do excellent phones, especially in the cheaper range such as the Moto G6, and the Moto Z2 Force was a great quirky flagship.

The Motorola P40 is most likely not destined for UK shores with this branding, the previous P30 launched globally as the Motorola One Power.

The new phone has taken an interesting direction by ditching Qualcomm in favour of a Exynos 7 Series 9610 from Samsung. These ships are rarely used outside of Samsung’s own phones. The most logical reason for this move is that Lenovo/Motorola have made a deal with Samsung that works out cheaper than Qualcomm.

Similar to last years model this is a mid range phone, therefore the Exynos 9610 is a mid range chip. It offers an octa-core CPU with four Cortex-A73 cores clocked at 2.3GHz and four efficiency Cortex-A53 cores clocked at 1.6GHz.

Complimenting the Samsung chip should be three storage configurations including 3GB RAM + 32GB storage, 4GB RAM + 64GB storage, and 4GB RAM + 128G storage. At least two colour variants might be offered – Blue and Gold.

It is believed that the phone will have a 48MP main rear camera along with one other camera which specification is unknown.

The phone will have a punch-hole selfie camera, a 3500mAh battery and this model will now feature NFC unlike last years model.

One of the main selling points for Motorola phones has always been their use of Android One, giving you regular security updates and no bloatware.
