A few days ago I reported that the Honor 20 and Honor 20 Pro could launch soon, well this has now been confirmed as the 21st of May in London, following a cryptic save the date image sent out.

On the save the date you had to solve a maths problem to work out the date. Depending on what you remember from school the 444+4x4x4+(4+4)/4+44/4 could have proved very tricky.

At the moment there is no confirmation if there will be a Pro model but the triple-camera Honor 20 Lite has launched in Malaysia this week.

The Lite model features a 6.21in FHD+ (2,340 x 1,080 pixels) display with a dewdrop notch. The triple camera setup on the Honor 20 Lite has a 24-megapixel sensor for the main shooter, an 8-megapixel ultrawide sensor with a field of view of 120°, and a 2-megapixel depth sensor for that is used for the bokeh effect. It also has a front-facing 32-megapixel camera that supports face unlock.

The device is powered by an octa-core Kirin 710 processor and has 4GB RAM along with 128GB of internal storage.

With the Honor 20, the save the date invite indicates a focus on photography, in particular, low light. This would make sense with the Huawei P30 Pro having an exceptional low light performance of its own.

The phone will almost certainly feature at least three rear cameras and very likely a 48MP main sensor, similar to the one found on the View 20 which was released at the start of the year. Considering the save the date message, the cryptic message was likely a clue to four cameras on the rear rather than three. If there is a forth, it could very well be a TOF sensor similar to the P30 Pro (which is technically still a camera).

The other alternative for all the fours is four models launching. We already have the normal model, the rumoured Pro, and the Lite model. A fourth could be possible, either at a different size or 5G. I would say 5G is very unlikely, as I think Huawei would want to be first out the door with a mainstream 5G device (I wouldn’t class the Mate X a 5G phone for the masses).

The none-lite versions will certainly feature a Kirin 980 SoC similar to the View 20, Mate 20 and P30.

Whatever gets released, one thing is for certain, this will offer exceptional value for money and be one of the most affordable flagships on the market, just like all of the Honor phones.
