Google is currently holding the I/O event for 2019, and today they will be announcing the new Google Pixel 3a, however, as usual with phones, the full specification is already available.
The Google Pixel 3a will have a 5.6-inch Full-Screen HD+ OLED display with a 2220 x 1080 resolution and an 18:9 aspect ratio. It will have the Always-on Display and Always-listening features. Google says the display has a contrast ratio of 100,000:1. There will be no notch, with the phone having quite a large bezel at the top.
The device will have 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage paired with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 670 octa-core chipset and Adreno 615 GPU.
The Pixel 3a will have a 12.2MP 1.4µm f/1.8 aperture Dual Pixel camera on the back. The camera will have autofocus, dual pixel phase detection, optical and electronic image stabilization, and a 76° field of view. The Pixel 3a will be able to record 1080p videos at 30, 60, or 120 frames per second, 720p videos at 30, 60, or 240 frames per second, and 4K videos at 30 frames per second.
The selfie camera is an 8MP 1.12µm f/2.0 sensor with an 84° field of view. It will be able to record 1080p, 720p, and 480p videos all at 30 frames per second.
The battery is a little disappointing at just 3000mAh though the smaller than average screen and SD670 SoC should mean you easily get a full day of heavy usage out of it. The phone will support 18W fast charging and USB-PD 2.0 via a USB 2.0 Type-C port. Google says the phone has a smart battery that learns your phone usage and knows which apps you frequently use and reduce power drawn by less frequent ones.
For connectivity, the Pixel 3a will have a single nano-SIM slot, eSIM support in select markets, a 3.5mm audio jack, NFC, dual-band Wi-Fi, GPS, and Bluetooth 5.0+LE with support for AptX, AptX HD, and LDAC codecs. The Pixel 3a will also have stereo speakers, a fingerprint scanner on the back, and support for Active Edge.
The Pixel 3a will run Android Pie 9.0 out of the box. Its weight is given as 147 grams and its dimensions as 151.3 x 70.1 x 8.2 mm.
The Pixel 3a will have Night Vision for flash-free bright and detailed low-light images, an impressive portrait mode, and exceptional sharpness thanks to the moving autofocus feature that is able to focus even moving subjects. There is unlimited Google Photos storage for all those high-quality images and videos too.
One thing we don’t know yet is the pricing. Pixel phones are not known for offering the best value for money so it is probably not going to be cheap for an SD670 based phone.
Pixel 3a XL
Slighly less is known about the Pixel 3a XL, it will of course have a larger screen, and it is believed to be 6-inches.
The chipset is upgraded to the Snapdragon 710, which is last years chipset rather than the newly launched Snapdragon 730 and the battery is believed to be 3,700 mAh.
The phones should share all the other specifications.
