Qualcomm will be holding their annual Snapdragon Summit from the 3rd to the 5th of December where they will reveal the latest flagship Snapdragon chipset.

Leaks, rumours and benchmarks have already been floating about, and you can expect to see more as we get closer to the announcement date.

A new leak has come out from a Chinese tipster, covering the key specs and not much else. I would take this with a big pinch of salt at the moment.

The leak reveals that the Snapdragon 865 chipset has one 2.84GHz Arm Cortex A77, three 2.42GHz Arm Cortex A77 and 1.8GHz Arm Cortex A55 and it includes Adreno 650 graphics.

Looking at the specification table below that would mean the Snapdragon 865 has the exact same layout and core frequencies as the Snapdragon 855+. While this is quite possible it does look a little suspicious.

It has previously been leaked than the chipset will be made on the 7nm EUV process by Samsung.

In terms of performance, the CPU is believed to be 20% faster than the Snapdragon 855+ and the GPU also 20% faster than the Adreno 640.

Previous benchmark leaks show this is roughly accurate with the SD865 having a 17% lead over the SD855+

If we compare the specification to the previous generation and the competing products there is not much exciting to reveal. It is extremely likely that Qualcomm will customise the chipsets and therefore use their own naming scheme, this is likely to be the Kryo 585.

Perhaps the most interesting comparison to be made will be to see how well the HiSilicon Kirin 990 which uses Arm Cortex A76/A55 fares against the A77 used by Qualcomm (and Mediatek).

It was previously reported that Huawei decided to stick to the A76 as getting the higher frequencies on A77 was not easy/possible. However, this leak would suggest Qualcomm has had no such problem, or it could prove the leaked spec is not accurate.
