Anker Soundcore Liberty Neo Total Wireless Earphones Review

Anker Soundcore has a lot of earphone choices on Amazon, I previously reviewed the Soundcore Liberty Air which are superb earphones, albeit a little expensive as far as Anker products go.

The Soundcore Liberty Neo are much more wallet-friendly, looking on Amazon, there are two versions, the older pair, which I was sent, and the upgraded model.

The main differences between the two is that the new models get 5 hours charge and IPX7 waterproofing, while the model I was sent is 3.5 hours and classed as sweat resistant with no mention of an IP rating.

Currently, that difference will cost you £20 with the older model costing £35.99 and the newer £56.99.

At £36 these are priced similarly to the Lenovo HT10 TWS, BlitzWolf BW-FYE7 and Blitzwolf BW-FYE1

Design and Build

These follow the same design principles as the previously mentioned earphones as well as the Groov-e which I was quite fond of previously.

The one difference with these is that Anker also suppler some extra rubber ear hooks allowing you to customise your fit a little more. I opted to use these and they do seem to help, as a runner, having earphones fall out mid-run is exceptionally annoying, so anything that can improve fit is a bonus.

Fit

The ear hooks add a little extra comfort to the earphones, and overall, they fit well and are comfortable to wear for long periods of time.

As I mainly use this style of earphone at the gym, a secure fit is always essential, and so far I have not had any issues with these falling out, nor requiring any adjustments once in my ears.

Sound Quality & Performance

As with most earphones nowadays, the pairing was quick and easy, there was no issue with the earphones pairing with each other and I just needed to hit pair on my phone.

Bluetooth 5 helps avoid any connection issues; there were no drop outs or interference.

It probably comes as no surprise that these do not sound as good as the more expensive Liberty Air. However, I do find that they sound much better than the Lenovo HT10 TWS, BlitzWolf BW-FYE7 and Blitzwolf BW-FYE1 all of which are priced almost identically.

Specifically, there is a good level of bass, but there is a lot less harshness with the mids and highs compared to the other cheaper brands. I have noticed recent when using cheap earphones for the gym, listening to quite high volumes, they cause tinnitus at night. Decent quality earphones do not cause this, I am sure it is the harsh highs that cause this issue. So far with these, I have not experienced such an issue.

Overall

For the price these are excellent, they sit about where you might expect for an Anker product at this price. They outperform similarly priced brands, but not as good as more expensive options.

The £20 premium for the new model seems steep, and as a gym-goer I would have preferred the IPX7 rating for reassurance, though I think I would be reluctant to spend 58% just for that rating and an additional 1.5 hours playback.

Overall though, for the price, these are excellent wirefree earphones.
