One OS not enough? Try 3 : Evolve III Maestro Tablet

With all the abilities of the Apple machines (App Store, iTunes, FaceTime etc) and the sheer amount of peripherals available to them it’s hard for other tablet, phone and media player producers to get an edge on the “brand”. Apple’s products are just as much a fashion accessory as they are a gadget. I was sucked in with the iPhone. Power and ability wise it’s not the best out there, but I and many others believe it is just by what it does, how it does it and what it stands for. So how can other manufacturers get an “edge”. Well Evolve are trying to here with a very simple idea. Why be stuck with one OS?  Why choose between whether to use Windows, Android or MeeGo, when you can have all three.   Evolve already make tablet PCs but they’re getting a slight revamp. Currently running with Intel Atom processors they’re about to get more power from the Dual-Core Oak Trail processor. There will also be 2GB of RAM a 10.1” capacitive touchscreen capable of 1024×600. Storage wise you’ll get up to 32GB of SSD and connectivity will be both WiFi and 3G. So what puts this apart? Well basically it comes with 3 operating systems that the user can choose to boot on startup. Android, Windows 7 and the Nokia/Intel newcomer MeeGo. This opens up a whole...

Swiss Army Knife just got better

Just when you thought the Swiss Army Knife couldn’t get any more useful, Victorinox, makers of the original branded Swiss Army Knife has now added to it’s flagship product the one thing we all need . A fully functional Secure Solid State Drive. Yes that’s right they’re going high tech.   With the usual combination of a small blade, file, screwdriver and scissors it also comes with USB 2.0 connectivity as well as eSATA II connectivity too. Couple that with a 32-bit processor, hardware error correction, secure data encryption, and dynamic power management the SSD offers 2x read speeds and 3x write speeds over your standard USB Flash Drive. There’s also an LCD display on board too telling you how much space is left on your drive.   It comes with bundled software providing a whole array of tools(no pun intended) for full file management like backup management of bookmarks, favourites and documents. It also offers full syncronization between your folders and Outlook plus you can also add password protection too.   There’s several sizes on offer from Victorinox. A 64GB slim and then a 128GB Slim Duo. These are both waterproof and shock-proof and are available in an assortment of colours. There’s also a version dubbed “flight friendly” which sports just the blade and the SSD. How this is flight friendly I don’t know. Sadly there’s no prices or...

Blackberry News : Going Dual-Core and new Dakota

As we’ve said in previous posts the future of mobile phones is now to go with Dual-Core processors to make our mobile telephones even faster when it comes to all those apps and texts and social networking we do every day on them. Blackberry phones to me haven’t made any massive differences to their phones for quite a while, and why should they? They’re more popular than ever and seem to do a great job for what they do. However they’re co-CEO Mike Laziridis has gone to say that RIM will be updating their phones with dual-core processors in the near future and also will be laden with the new QNX OS that will be shown on their tablet PC the BlackBerry PlayBook.   Other mobile companies are already on the dual-core bandwagon, LG for example with the Optimus 2X and Motorola with its Atrix phone, but RIM will be taking their time to get out its dual-core flavoured mobile into the market as Lazaridis has said that to put them in now and get them out quickly might affect the quality of the phone, "Battery life, size, weight, thickness, cost" will be affected. He also went on to say "What we’re setting up is for the next 10 years of BlackBerry. We just finished the first 10 years, actually closer to 12 – the first decade of BlackBerry....

Samsung ZX310 Superslim laptop

The ZX310 was teased to us at CES but we’ve got the full lowdown on this new MacBook Air like super slim laptop. Where you’d think the Apple version of this style of laptop would be the dearer one(much like all Apple’s products. This new Samsung one actually costs more. Now obviously there’s a reason behind that so lets take a look inside and see what this one has to offer over its rival.   Firstly it has the same size 13” screen as the MacBook Air and a similar brushed metal look of the MacBook Pro. Powered inside by Intel Core i5 1.4GHz processor it also has 4GB of RAM. Operating system wise it’s Windows 7 and you have the option of the on board SSD at 128GB or 256GB. Well looking at that it’s still as good as a MacBook Air, not better.   Available in the states in February they will retail at $1599 (£1050 ish to you and me) However this isn’t the first time Samsung has slapped a heavier price tag on its product that is obviously in direct competition with an Apple product. The Galaxy Tab was priced higher than an iPad on it’s release. Are Samsung nailing the market? Are they the true rival to Apple? Only time will tell. CES : Another Android 3.0 Tablet–Motorola XOOM

Well as we all know Tablet PCs are the in-thing. We tell you enough about them here on MightyGadget but that’s just because everyone else seems to want a part of them. If you want to blame someone blame Apple for the iPad, simple. The next one in line is the Motorola Xoom another Android 3.0 toting device shown off this week at CES. Not only did Motorola show it (obviously) but Google’s main man Andy Rubin actually used this tablet pre-Motorola showing, to show off Android 3.0, read into that what you will, but i reckon he thinks it’s pretty good. I’m sure you will too.   Speccage : Nvidia Tegra 2 Dual-Core (yes Tegra 2 Dual-Core) processor. 10.1” 1280 x 800p display (16:9 cinema aspect ratio too) Android 3.0 Honeycomb OS 2MP Front Facing Camera 5MP Rear-Facing Camera 720p Video Capture Full Adobe Flash 10.1 compatability 32GB on board storage expandable via microSD WiFi and 3G as standard Now as you can see ther this surely is a tablet to be reckoned with, everything about it screams greatness from the dual-core processor to the Flash support to the new Android OS. Motorola have said the XOOM “redefines the tablet device category by providing more ways to have fun, connect with friends and stay productive on the go”. They have also said it will be available in the...
