Sharp’s New AQUOS LED TV

Posted by skin On January - 18 - 2010

Unveiled at CES last week Sharp are coming out with a new line of 1.6”deep AQUOS LED TVs and boy do they look good. As you all know we all love a good TV at Mighty Gadget and these do indeed look the bee’s knees as most LED’s do. What makes them different you might ask? Standard screens work as we all know with a red green and blue pixel. These add a fourth pixel, a yellow one, which improves the colours one can see on a screen.

The LC-LE810E will come in 3 sizes, 32”, 40” and 46” and will support output. The next model up is the LC-LE820 which is pretty much the same only coming in the larger 40”, 46” and 60”. The daddy of the series is the LC-LE920E. Again this comes in 40”,46” and 60” but has extras!! It has Aquos Motion 240Hz to reduce on motion blur and has the latest version of AQUOS Net(that means if you live in the US you get Netflix and and Twitter working on your box)

The TV’s should be out in March over here but we don’t have any prices as yet

Posted by skin On August - 5 - 2009

With “unprecedented image quality and energy-efficient, eco-friendly performance”, Sharp have launched two LED backlit HDTV ranges.

The Aquos LE600 and LE700 have LEDs positioned behind the screen to give a much brighter and improves the cleanliness of the colours. Both models come in 32”, 40” and 46” while the LE700 also comes in a 52”. Both will have full X-Gen LCD panels but the LE700 goes one further yet again with 100Hz technology for those nice smoother images. Both also have four HDMI ports, plenty for the consoles etc

With the backlit screen these models show a significant improvement over a regular LCD but also with the added bonus they’re greener, no not in colour, they use 40% less power too. Result!! The price – from £750……

Sharp Mirumo 934SH with "memory LCD"

Posted by James On May - 19 - 2009

Unfortunately this won’t likely be seen anywhere but Japan, but Sharpe a releasing the mirumo 934SH for SoftBank (Japanese Telecom company).

The 934SH features a 3-inch external display that can display time, date, weather, news but manages to only consume 5% five per cent of the power used by previous external displays.

Sharp is coining this display as "memory LCD" which makes it sound like E-Ink but according to one of the commenter's on Engadget, who apparently emailed the tip in, the display is actually and the memory part comes from the fact the external display can only show one of 38 different screens at one time, and the hardware remembers which of those 38 you use most.

The phone also comes with an 8 megapixel camera, a waterproof shell, and a UV sensor.

Pretty impressive stuff.

Sharp Mebius PC-NJ70A with LCD trackpad

Posted by James On April - 21 - 2009

Sharp have just let loose the details of the Mebius PC-NJ70A. While this nothing very interesting underneath the bonnet with a 10.1-inch display (1,024 x 600), 1.6GHz Atom N270 processor, 1GB of RAM, a 160GB HDD, three USB 2.0 ports, Ethernet, WiFi, Bluetooth 2.1+EDR and a multicard reader. It does have one very interesting feature of a 854 x 480 resolution LCD trackpad.

The LCD trackpad automatically adjusts brightness based on surrounding light and can likely act as a secondary display for things like adjusting an equalizer with your digits.

No word on pricing or availability just yet.

LG and Sharp receive $585 million LCD price fixing fine.

Posted by James On November - 13 - 2008

sharplg thumb LG and Sharp receive $585 million LCD price fixing fine. Price fixing seems to be quite common in big business and the latest 2 companies to be caught out are LG, Sharp Chunghwa Picture Tubes.

The three companies will face a total fine of $585m. LG has the largest fine of $400m for conspiring to fix prices from September 2001 to June 2006. Sharp have a fine of $120m for inflating prices of panels sold to Dell, Motorola and Apple between 2001-2006.

Sharp have responded by imposing a 10 to 30 percent pay cut for 3 months to reassure shareholders.

Personally 10 to 30 percent seems a bit lenient considering it probably netted the company hundreds of millions in extra revenue.
