Posted by James On March - 5 - 2009

We posted about the Asus Eee keyboard back in January when it was seen at CES. has now revealed some more details about the self-contained PC, as well as potential release dates, at the CeBIT show in Hannover.

The Eee Keyboard will be based on a 1.6GHz Intel processor, and will be equipped with 1GB of RAM and an SSD with either 16GB or 32GB SSD.

There will be two versions at different price points, with the main distinguishing feature being a wireless HDMI connection to the TV.

The keyboard also comes with pair of USB 2.0 ports, a VGA connector and a standard HDMI port, along with bluetooth and wireless.

It is estimated that the standard version will cost $400 US (£285), while the wireless version will cost somewhere between $400 US and $600 US (£427).

’ company chairman Jonney Shih said that the new Eee Keyboard could be released as soon as May this year, but that June would be a more realistic bet.

Asus Eee Keyboard / All in one PC / M50

Granted technically do the same but over the past few years they have at least been trying to put a twist on things. They basically carved a new niche in the computing world with cheap netbooks, they are trying to do the same with desktops by releasing the EeeBox and now they have announced the Assus Eee Keyboard.

At first this looks like are releasing a keyboard that is just ripping off MacBooks, but this is not the case at all, this is not just a keyboard but an entire PC built into a keyboard with a 5-inch touchscreen display.

It also has a bunch of connectivity including Wi-Fi 802.11b/g/n, Bluetooth 2.0, Ultra Wideband HDMI USB 2.0 x2, VGA, HDMI, headphone and mic ports.

The interesting thing to not is the use of Ultra Wideband HDMI. This is wireless HDMI which will essentially allow you to connect to all your devices wirelessly (not including the power cord).

It would be amazing if they could up the specification enough to make it suitable for a HTPC.

According to CEO Johnny Shih the Eee Keyboard will be available in the next 3 - 6 months.

There is no word on pricing yet.
