Blu-Ray : MovieIQ coming to BD-Live

Posted by skin On June - 22 - 2009

Finally BD-Live is going to become useful. Sony is teaming up with Gracenote, those lovely media database peeps that gets all the track info when you put your cd’s in your computer, have brainstormed MovieIQ. Basically its IMDB while you watch your film.

If you want to know who’s who, what they’ve been in before or what music’s on in the background you’ll no longer have to fire up your pc or laptop to find out who or what. It’ll also tell you all sorts of facts and trivia about the film you’re watching.

This should be coming to Sony studio releases from September with new titles like Angels and Demons to the old skool ones like Easy Rider.

Sanyo have developed a new more powerful blue laser diode that can burn through Blu-Ray Disks far enough to accurately write four 25GB layers allowing for 100GB of storage.

Currently Blu-Ray disks are limited to 50GB of data.

The new laser is reported to be very fast as well, it can burn disks at 12x which means it could fill an entire 100GB disk in 10 minutes!

$400 40GB Sony PS3 possibly coming this Christmas

Posted by James On September - 11 - 2007

Ok so this apparently is very much a rumor and not firm truth but Ars Technica is reporting the Sony is releasing a 40gig version of the PS3 this holiday season (I presume this means Christmas) for the bargain price of $400 (£200) and also reducing the price of the 80gig (though I am sure its 60gig!) version to $500 (£250). Ok so I doubt us Brits are going to see it this year nor at them prices but it would be great if this is true. I personally have put off getting the PS3, I already own a 360 and Wii.
