MediaTek Launches MT6592. The World’s First True Octa-Core Processor.

MediaTek is a lesser known manufactured compared to Qualcomm and tend to be found in cheaper phones. However they are improving their market share, Samsung have already announced that they plan to use their processors for low to midrange handsets next year.

Now MediaTek have announced the MT6592 which is the first true octa-core mobile processor and could be in devices as soon as the end of the year.

This 28nm chip packs eight low-power Cortex-A7 cores, and courtesy of the Heterogeneous Multi-Processing use model on top of ARM’s big.LITTLE architecture. All 8 cores can operate simultaneously — at up to between 1.7GHz and 2GHz

MediaTek pointed that Chrome can already make use of all eight cores, and likewise with some map apps, video players plus multi-window function.

Other features include an image signal process which supports 16-megapixel camera modules. Also a ARM Mali-450 MP graphics processor clocked at 700MHz which should be capable of delivering full HD at 60fps and decent gaming performance.

It also video frame rate up scaling to 60fps to reduce motion blur, along with 4K H.264 video decoding plus full HD H.265/VP9 playback which in theory means they are supporting 4k before Qualcomm does.
