BREAKING: HP ending all Web OS device development, Pre 3, Veer, Touchpad RIP

In advance of Hewlett-Packard’s 3rd quarter conference call, HP  issued a press  release that among other things revealed:

“In addition, HP reported that it plans to announce that it
will discontinue operations for webOS devices, specifically the TouchPad and
webOS phones. HP will continue to explore options to optimize the value of
webOS software going forward.”

This explains why the Pre 3 announcement was muted, to say the  least. It also explains why no UK carrier was picking up the Pre 3. The fact  that HP did not curtail the web OS itself lends credence to rumors that HP may  license the software to handset makers. We will have more on this story as it  develops in the earnings call. However, you may want to think twice before  picking up that Pre 3 online.

  1. Sad to see webOS go bye bye…I have a feeling it will be back. Perhaps someone like Android will purchase if for future devices?
