Most Anticipated Online Games for 2014

2014 is set to be a great year for the video gaming world, with the release of the next generation of video-gaming consoles being released in December: the PlayStation 4 and the Xbox One. Along with the vast improvements and leaps forward in performance, graphics and overall gameplay experience, gaming development companies will be aiming to create the ultimate online experience for most of their flagship video games.

Broadband providers will want to extend their fibre optic cabling for next year, given that gamers across the country will be needing ultra-high speed internet for the ultimate online gaming experience. Currently, fibre optic is only available in certain areas, but you can look into getting fibre broadband from Virgin Media presently if you want to prepare yourself for the onslaught!

Arguably as gigantic as the other titan war video game franchise Call of Duty, the new entry in the Battlefield saga has a lot of high expectations, although reception to the current Beta testing version has been a little lukewarm. Still, there are a few months of development left to go, and it’s highly unlikely that Battlefield 4 will fail to impress fans of the franchise.

Aside from the improvements made to general gameplay, the online features sound incredibly diverse and promising. Gamers will be able to play as one of three different factions: the US, China and Russia. Up to 64 players will be able to play at once and Commander Mode will return to the game, having not been seen since Battlefield 2, where the player will be able to oversee the entire map and give orders to teammates, observing the battlefield through the eyes of other players.

Watch Dogs

OK so this was on our 2013 list but it has been put back until next year. Watch Dogs promises the ultimate open-world action/stealth video game experience of all time. The concept involves the player’s ability to hack into all kinds of electronic systems to attain and control information as well as destroying certain devices, revolving around a character with a tragic past, who has now turned to cyber crime to enact his revenge.

Although most of the promotional content for the game has focused on the single-player story mode, Ubisoft has been very selective with teasers about the game’s online multiplayer capabilities. It has now emerged that other players can stalk your character, unseen, blending into the crowds in order to follow you when you’re not on missions!

Firefly Online

The long-anticipated Firefly game has had a troubled past, with developers announcing they’d dropped the title two years ago. Based on the cult TV show, Multiverse have announced that they have now acquired the source code for the game, proceeding towards a finished product.

Players will be able to captain a ship, hire a crew and go on all kinds of quests, along with the ability to trade and compete with other players.

Elder Scrolls Online

This game will take the internet and the gaming world by storm. Rumours of an Elder Scrolls MMORPG have been around since what seems like the dawn of time, but now, it’s finally been announced. Beta testing has commenced and leaked footage of gameplay surfaced online subsequently. Gamers and fans of the Elder Scrolls series, as well as fans of fully-immersive role-playing games in general will be looking forward to this game being one of the biggest releases of 2014.

It seems like a lot has been promised for next year for gamers. It still feels a long while away, given that we’ve still got a few months left in the run up to the release of the new PlayStation and Xbox. Hopefully, next year will have more surprises in store for us.
