3 MiFi Priced

Posted by skin On August - 31 - 2009

We mentioned a few weeks ago about the 3 “MiFi” , the mobile 3G WiFi router that allows you to get an internet connection from anywhere and then connect several devices to said connection and use them how and where you please. Well its been priced up.

It will be offered with 2 plans that you can sign up for.

  • Broadband 5GB 1 month – With this you pay an upfront fee of £69.99. With this you get the router and a 1 month contract with 5GB of usage allowance. There will be a £15 a month fee after then to continue your contract.
  • Ready to Go – This starts with a £99.99 fee for the router which gives you 3GB data to be used over 3 months. After this you just top up as you do a pay as you go mobile and just top up as and when you need.

Just for some extra info the dongle/router will have a 5 hour battery life and will have a microSD slot. It will work the same way as your home router with a password to protect your signal. You can order online from 17th September and will be available in stores from the 18th.

2010 : 15” LG OLED Coming

Posted by skin On August - 31 - 2009

With its first spotting at CES earlier in the year and with IFA fast approaching, will be giving a full showing of its new monster sized OLED, just kidding its still the biggest out there due to the fact all that’s currently out there is the Sony XEL-1, but at 15” a full 4” bigger than the Sony, OLED screens are going to be entering respectable size.

As well as the extra inches, the TV gives a 1,000,000:1 contrast ratio a super fast response rate, being OLED the power consumption is a lot less than a standard LCD and the screen life will be guaranteed for 30,000 hours of use.

There’s no news on an exact price yet but its likely to be sky high if the Sony one is anything to go by. Hopefully we’ll get some more info from IFA in Berlin. It will be hitting the Korean market in November and hopefully will be on our shores early next year.

14.4 Mbps Mobile Broadband for Vodafone

Posted by skin On August - 29 - 2009

Soon UK 3G customers of will be able to get a whopping 14.4Mbps mobile broadband, making it faster than what most people have on their home broadband. The super fast speeds are being primed after they were trialled in various locations in the UK (London, Liverpool and Birmingham)

has said its new service will be available to 80%  of its users whether they be mobile dongles or phones with no extra cost to upgrade to the service. Easy peasy then for you to be viewing sites or your favourite youtube videos even faster than you already were.

Obviously the likelyhood of you getting a 14.4Mbps connection speed will be slim, but it’s claimed an average of 10Mbps will be achievable still a lot faster than current mobile speeds and your average ADSL or Cable Home user. Could this be the end of home broadband, all we need is unlimited usage and it could be the future of broadband.

Nokia-N900_w500

With next weeks Nokia World Expo looming, the Booklet 3G, Nokia’s product announcement are going full steam ahead with the new N900. First reports were that it was a phone similar to the N97, using the based Maemo OS. Now its an internet tablet.

It will pack the ARM Cortex-A8 processor the same as the Palm Pre and iPhone 3GS.It’ll also pack 1GB of memory for the running of applications such as full Adobe Flash 9.4 for all them online videos you want to watch. OpenGL ES 2.0 graphics will make the phone, i mean tablet powerful in the visual department probably for the games and media content.

Whats gutting is that I got an N97 a month ago and now Nokia who normally announce stuff 10 years in advance so by the time its released its out of date (just like my N97 is now) this is looking at an October release but nothing is definite yet as there’s no price or network carrier as yet.

Full Specs : -

  • ARM Cortex-A8 processor
  • Maemo -based OS
  • 3.5-inch QVGA touchscreen
  • QWERTY keyboard
  • HSDPA
  • Wi-Fi
  • 32GB of storage (expandable to 48GB with microSD)
  • 5MP camera

Sony Reader : Touchscreen and Pocket

sony prs600 w500 thumb Sony Reader : Touchscreen and Pocket

As of Wednesday, the new Sony Reader will be able to pre-order for its 10th September release.

The PRS-600 Touch Edition is technically the second touchscreen reader from Sony but the PRS-700 wasn’t widely available in the UK to buy, so this is the real first upgrade to go out to the mainstream since the popular PRS-505. If you’re a keen Ebooker this will set you back £249. The Pocket version the PRS-300 is a lower £179 and as it suggests is a smaller less “specced” version.

Nokia Booklet 3G The “mini laptop”

Posted by skin On August - 25 - 2009

nokia3g.480 thumb Nokia Booklet 3G The “mini laptop”

Nokia have left entering the netbook market for some time but here’s their first foray into the market with what they prefer to call a “mini laptop”. The Finn’s netbook(should I call it that??) appears to have the specs of a high end netbook but offers a lot more. You wouldnt expect anything less from Nokia though would we.

  • The first advantage is this Netbook is made by a “Mobile” company. Nokia knows what people want/need on the move which computer specialists Dell and Acer still havent seemed to get 100% right.
  • Most netbooks don’t do HD graphics on their small screens, THIS DOES!!!! 720p – No problemo
  • Nokia Claims its battery will last 12 hours. Now I know some of their phones batteries last forever but in my experience some havent so i’ll reserver judgement on this comment till I see one.
  • The Nokia netbook no doubt will come bundled with a 3G broadband subscription but it has a SIM slot allowing you to put your phone SIM in to continue surging if your 3G broadband has no signal.
  • Nokia have bundled GPS into the Booket 3G, no need to upgrade like other netbooks. Add Nokia Ovi Maps to the equation and you can find your way around like on your mobile.
  • It works with all of Nokias online services (Ovi etc)
  • Only 2cm thick, but built by Nokia. We all know you can drop your Nokia in the toilet(not recommended in reality) and after a dry out they work. No doubt the 3G booklet will be built of the same solid stuff. Its got an aluminium chassis and a thin Glass Screen frame, just like the MacBook, so it’ll look real nice too
  • Nokia have said it’ll sync with your mobile too although full details on how or what it’ll do entirely arent sure but it can only be good …….right??
  • It has HDMI out.  Plug into your TV and watch your HD video…….Simples!!

Zune HD hitting the States in September

Posted by skin On August - 12 - 2009

September 15th. Mark it in your diaries. Thats the date some leaked packaging was bearing. It’s the PMP we’re all waiting for(if you’re one of these that don’t like Apple especially). Piece by piece fanboys have tried to source the clues and got Microsoft to spill the proverbial beans.

The OLED toting PMP looks nice. It’s specs sound nice, c’mon you know it cant disappoint can it? Well unfortunately the September 15th date is only for the States and Microsoft are keeping quiet as to when us Brits will get a go of it and we havent even got the first which was realeased nearly 3 years ago and has had several models since then too.

Also there’s still no news on a price but a lot of rumours are flying round the £150 mark. C’mon Microsoft pull your finger out and let us limeys in.

Microsoft Office coming to a Nokia near you

Posted by skin On August - 12 - 2009

Microsoft and Nokia joined forces today and had a brainstorm. The software and mobile giants have confirmed they will bring a mobile version of Microsoft Office to Nokia’s Symbian powered smartphones.

A few of Nokia’s phones already use Microsoft software (Exchange ActiveSync) so its no big surprise they’re coming together again. Next year will see the phone’s packing Microsoft Office Communicator Mobile. Not the catchiest of names but basically will allow to find work colleagues, instant message and something called “presence information”(ideas anyone???)

Further into the future mobile versions of your favourite office programs, Word, PowerPoint, Excel etc so you can view, edit and send documents from your mobile.
