Hagiwara shrinks 2.5-inch SSD tech to 1-inch drives

Posted by James On March - 31 - 2009

Hagiwara Sys-Com has recently announced it has applied the technology from 2.5-inch solid state drives to smaller 1-inch drives.

They have developed the HDF10P SSD drive which is currently only available in an 8GB capacity however they are planning on releasing a 16GB version.

The company has placed the TrueSSD controller it has developed in-house to the smaller drives, which performs static wear leveling to make the drives last longer by evenly distributing write operations across all cells in the media.

The HFD10P has a PATA interface, and sustained read speeds are set at 39MBps, while write speeds are rated at 25MBps. The smaller form factor of these drives makes them well-suited for use in netbooks and other ultra-portable computing devices.

The device will be Windows Mobile 6.5-based which will be skinned in a Flash based Acer Suite 2.0 shell.

The report also mentions a September release and a possible 560 Euro ($760) price tag.

The Qualcomm processor hasn't actually been confirmed but it looks likely

New iPhone coming June according to AT&T tipster

Posted by James On March - 25 - 2009

There has been some rumours within AT&T that the new will be launched in June this year which will bring many new features for the as well as better integration with mobile network’s own services.

Apparently the source is reasonably high up at AT&T and some of the details leaked were:

  • New announcement around mid-June
  • New will be faster and have a more seamless experience unmatched by any device.
  • U-Verse application; will allow control of your home DVR (play, pause, rewind, etc.)
  • The annual launch is “becoming a tradition.”
  • Nothing official is being confirmed, but they said that people should prep for an exciting time this summer.
  • AT&T is said to be working with Apple to create a unified product with an unparalleled experience across all their products and services.
  • Apple’s 3.0 software should tell us where the platform is going.
  • They said customers shouldn’t need to choose from AT&T’s high-end devices because of features, they should choose based on preferences. The gap in capability should be filled with the new . Ok, bets on slide out QWERTY, autofocus camera, video sharing, blah blah?
  • Seems like the higher speed HSDPA (7.2Mbps) is being hinted at too which should confirm the earlier rumours of the new Infineon chipset.
  • The $99 3G netbook will start selling this summer, and the first one won’t be a Windows OS.

Sadly Pioneer are stepping out of the Plasma TV business and they have putting the last few nails in the coffin with the announcement of their last range of Plasma TVs.

The external-tuner-equipped KRP-500A and KRP-600A as well as their all-in-one equivalents, the KRP-500M and KRP-600M, all produce 1080p images at 50 and 60 inches respectively. Although their contrast ratios aren't mentioned, they all have four HDMI inputs with support for deep color, support media from a USB port and have input over D4 (component) as well as VGA.

All four should be available on April 1st at open prices on the Japanese market. It's unlikely that the sets will be available elsewhere as they are expected to ship in relatively small numbers (god dammit!).

Once the screens have been launched Pioneer says it intends to halt all TV production in May and will clear TVs out of the market shortly afterward. It will continue to provide repairs on sets for the next 8 years and hopes to still offer replacement parts as long as supplies last after that period.
