In the next few days (12^th November) Intel will be releasing its Core 2 Extreme QX9650 CPU, its new high end processor. This is the first Intel chip based built on the 45nm fabrication process, and it is also the first chip based on the Penryn core,, the successor of the Merom core.

The Core 2 Extreme QX9650 is clocked at 3GHz with 1333MHz front side bus and 6MB of L2 Cache per core die making 12MB in total. UK price will be around £650 (inc. VAT) or in the US $999 (ex. Tax).

It quite a good week if you are a PC Gamer. As of yesterday (29/10/07) Nvidia has started shipping its revised GeForce 8800 GT based on the new G92 architecture that uses the 65nm fabrication process, as opposed to the G80 architecture(90nm). The GeForce 8800 GT is designed to be a midrange card costing between $200 and $250 but with the new architecture they have managed to produce a card somewhere between the 2 high end cards, the 8800 GTS and GTX. Ok so I am planning on doing a couple of posts about the new Nvidia 8800 GT Graphics Processor, and the new Intel Core 2 Extreme QX9650. Two of the important features of these products is the reduction in Fabrication process size. The Intel Core 2 Extreme QX9650 has moved to the 45nm Fabrication process from 65nm and the Nvidia 8800 GT has moved from the 90nm Fabrication Process to 65nm. So the reason for this post is what the hell is the Fabrication Process and why is it good for our CPUs/GPUs?

The simple answer is that the smaller the fabrication processes then the more transistors you can fit on each chip, and the more transistors you have the faster the technology you are producing can run. The other advantage is that shrinking a 65-nanometre design to 45-nanometres would result in a die that is less than half the size allowing a manufacturer to reduce the power consumption and heat dissipation of the chip

I was fed up with the look of the Blog so I am trying out some new themes, it will no doubt change again as we test out some new designs etc!

Sony's newest member of the stylish Cyber-shot T-series line has been announced, and you can now do away with them pesky memory cards. The Cyber-shot DSC-T2 will is a 8-megapixel camera with a whopping 4 gigabytes of internal memory. That should last you about 1,300 full-res photos before you need to resort to external memory cards. Today Samsung Electronics has unveiled a 5-megapixel handset G800. In addition to 5-megapixel camera with 3x optical zoom and xenon flash it features 3G support and HSDPA technology. The camera functions include face recognition, panoramic and macro modes, new graphical user’s interface draws the G800 closer to digital still cameras. Ok so the Yanks have had it for ages, dam you Microsoft for giving the Americans all the cool things first. Anyway, Microsoft has confirmed you'll get a whole five free HD-DVDs when you splash out a mere £114.99 on an Xbox 360 HD-DVD drive. With hi-def movies clocking in at around £25, you're basically getting the drive for free. When you hand over your cash, you'll fill in a form choosing five out of thirteen films. Films include Serenity, Children of Men, Swordfish, The Prestige and  Full Metal Jacket. Having to wait 28 days is a bit annoying but I think I am sold, I already have a 360 so I am only forking out £114.99 for a HD player AND 5 films, bargain! Read the rest of this entry »
