Stuff Live 2008 Coverage

Posted by James On November - 6 - 2008

On Sunday Mighty Gadget had the pleasure to attend the Stuff Live show while there were dozens of exhibits to blog about here are some of the most impressive.

The worlds Largest LCD, the 108in Full HD Sharp being used to play a PS3. This picture does not actually do it justice, this thing is freaking massive.

The worlds first hovering chair. I am a little disappointed that people were not allowed to try this out, but it does cost £5k so I am guessing they don’t want some Joe Blogs breaking their fancy chair!

A pair of Keff Muon Series Speakers. These bad boys cost £70k a pair. They are actually very large as well but larger than I thought they would be. These are fabricated from super-formed aluminium and are limited to just 100 pairs.

There will be more posts from Stuff Live to come.

Appalling Service from Virgin Trains

Posted by James On November - 5 - 2008

Virgin_Trains A slightly off topic post but this weekend I had the pleasure to go down to London to attend the Stuff Live Show 2008. I am lucky enough to live in sunny old Blackpool so getting a train to London was the best option.

Unfortunately while the show was excellent, and my accommodation was good enough I found my experience with Virgin Trains less than pleasing.

I booked our tickets in advanced on thetrainline.com costing me a grand total of £137.50 for 2 people. I know this is not a lot of money but it is quite expensive when the accommodation for 2 nights cost less, and I for £100 for 1 person I paid for a flight to Geneva. I could also book a flight from Blackpool to Barcelona at the weekend for 2 people including taxes and fees for £60.89.

Granted it is common knowledge that trains are not cheap while flights can be. The real problem I had was when boarding the train at Preston there was 4 1st class carriages and 3 2nd class carriages. With a good chunk of one of the 2nd class carriages been taken up by the food and drinks section.

This therefore meant that the train had already filled all the seating area by the time it arrived in Preston so we were forced to stand.

Each stop after Preston more and more people got on to the train, to the point where it was physically to crowded to move, it was impossible to move down the carriage to the toilets. To say I was a little too close for comfort with the man standing next to me would be an understatement.

When we were an hour from London one of the staff on the train kindly informed us we could use the 1st class seats. It was actually so full we still had to stand, but at least I could breathe.

I realise trains are busy, and if it looks too busy I you should just wait until the next one, however I think a train company should take some responsibility, the train was overcrowded to the point I am pretty sure they were breaking some health and safety rules. If the train gets to the point where it is too full a member of staff should stop people boarding.

I also like the fact they repeatedly announced that we should pay attention to their safety posters. Yeah if I could bloody breathe let alone move I may of read it.

I also have to question what kind of moron thinks that putting 4 1st class carriages and 2.5 standard class carriages on a busy train is acceptable? I quickly checked online and the first class return fair would cost me £370, I can’t see many people taking that option!

I am just glad I wasn’t hungover on Saturday or the 10+ people I was crammed next to would of had me projectile vomiting on them for 4 hours!

Stuff Live 2008

I am finally back from London after the Stuff Live show. Unfortunately I seem to of come down with a virus, I guess as a result of my travelling further south than Manchester! So sorry for the delayed posts. Over the next couple of days I will be posting all the information and pictures from the Stuff Live event!

Sponsored Post: Myvic Electronic Cigarette

Ever thought how good would it be if there was a way to reduce the harm of cigarettes without giving up the habit of smoking? Here is the answer, Myvic Electronic Cigarette is a revolutionary new product which is drastically healthier than traditional smoking. It will improve your health while giving the same sensations as ordinary cigarettes.

There are more than 4000 chemicals found in the ordinary cigarettes, of which at least 400 are harmful for the human body. They contain, tar, carbon monoxide, benzene, acetone, formaldehyde, arsenic and many others. This chemicals contribute to lung cancer and many other diseases associated with cigarette smoking.

While using Myvic Electronic Cigarette you have to change nicotine refills, which range from high concentrate nicotine to zero nicotine content. The refill contains nicotine and propylene glycol (harmless to human body). Nicotine is not believed to cause cancer, and compared to all the chemicals inhaled while smoking ordinary cigarettes it is relatively harmless.

This revolutionary device can be used anywhere where traditional smoking is forbidden: restaurants, clubs, pubs and even on the planes. It completely simulates the sensation of smoking ordinary cigarettes, it even produces ’smoke’ which is actually water vapours. 98% of the nicotine contained in the inhaled mist is absorbed by the organism, leaving only propylene glycol which is exhaled and is absolutely harmless to people around you, therefore there is no passive smoking. The ’smoke’ disappears within seconds after being exhaled, leaving no smoke what so ever inside the building.

Myvic Electronic Cigarette is also cheaper than ordinary cigarettes. It could save you £528 a year, or even more depending on individual smoking habits. The cigarette can be purchased at the price of £39, and a 5 pack of Myvic Refills is priced at £5. One Myvic Refill is equal to approx. 10-20 ordinary cigarettes, which means you pay £5 for the equivalent of approx. 50-100 ordinary cigarettes.

More information on the benefits of the Myvic Electronic Cigarette can be found on the official website at www.myvic.co.uk.

Posted by James On April - 23 - 2008

playtv-thumb PlayTV will finally arrive on the PS3 in July Amazon have revealed that the PlayTV add-on for the PS3 will arrive in the UK on July 31st.

For those not in the know the PlayTV is a small box packing dual tuners with a seven day EPG allowing you to record shows onto your PS3 hard drive.

Granted if you have a 40 Gb PS3 it is not the most space for a PVR but it is more than enough to store a few episodes of your favourite show, and you can always upgrade your HD.

Pricing is not to bad at a reasonable £60.

I have also just added a contact page as reader could not contact me, so any readers needing any information can now use our contact form.

Foxconn offer free hardware and money with Scholarship Program

Posted by James On November - 13 - 2007

QF_Scholarship-gry

I think this is a brilliant move by Foxconn. They are asking overclockers to sign up to their scholarship program in order to overclock some of their hardware

Basically if you get accepted you will receive a full range of hardware (including CPU, memory, graphics, motherboard) AND cash sponsorship for LN2 or other extreme cooling techniques.

Not only will you receive all these free items but you will get chance to try out pre-release hardware with aims of setting new overclocking records.

As much as I would love to sign up for this program I don’t think my overclocking skills are quite up to it!

If you think you may be good enough apply now here.
