The 5 Most Epic Sound Systems of All Time

The philosopher/poet Friedrich Nietzsche once said that “without music, life would be a mistake.” Most people would be inclined to agree. Music is a fundamental part of almost every society on the planet, and since this is the 21st Century and we’re breaking new grounds in technological achievements, it seems that the way we hear music is just as important as what we hear.

A study by the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA) showed that almost 70% of people believed audio to be an important aspect of their lives, with almost half stating they are constantly listening to some form of audio content.

With this in mind, here are five amazing ways to hear our favourite tunes.

5. Dunlavy SC IV

Created by John Dunlavy, considered a legend in audio suppliers, these speakers are for serious lovers of sound. A symmetrical arrangement of woofers and drivers contained in a large cabinet means that you’ll feel every vibration and are an ideal choice if you like to create your own sounds in music production.

4. Car Speakers

Whilst there are many extreme car audio setups, this one is very audacious. Leaving little room for passengers, these specialised sound systems are often nicknamed ‘boom cars’ due to the impressive number of speakers, tweeters and subwoofers.

3. Sphaeron Excalibur

This amazing system is extremely stylish. You’ll need a home the size of a small train station to house it in, but once installed, you can’t ignore the fact that the trumpet design is eye-catching, inspiring and has the potential to truly blow you away.

2. CAT MBX Powered Speakers

Looking every inch the luxury item, this system stands at 12 feet tall and weighs an impressive 5 tonnes! 12 inch subwoofers and 9 inch woofers give a high quality sound at all times and the colour scheme means they will certainly not sit in the background even when turned off.

1. Kipnis’ Outer Limits Theatre

Quite possibly the most insane sound system in the world, this private theatre cost a staggering £3.7million pounds. The owner, Jeremy Kipnis has spent the month creating a system that cannot be imitated. Scores of speakers, subwoofers, amplifiers, media players and projection screens combine to produce a sound which is “the greatest show on Earth” according to Kipnis.

Tom Wilson writes for Avonics, leading Manchester audio equipment suppliers, passionate about all things audio-visual.
